Installation Methodology of an Semi Unitize Glazed System
The installation of an aluminium glazed entrance system requires a systematic approach to ensure structural stability, dimensional accuracy, and long-term performance. The following methodology outlines the typical sequence adopted during execution.
1. Site Survey and Setting Out
Prior to installation, the site is surveyed to verify dimensions and establish reference grid lines. Horizontal and vertical control points are marked to ensure that the façade alignment matches the approved drawings. The centre lines of the entrance and the automatic door openings are transferred to the slab and structural elements.
2. Bracket and Anchor Installation
Supporting brackets and anchor fasteners are fixed to the RCC structure at predetermined locations. These brackets act as the primary load transfer mechanism between the building structure and the aluminium framing system.
During installation, the following are verified:
Anchor locations and spacing.
Alignment with grid lines.
Edge distances and embedment depth.
Tightening torque requirements.
3. Installation of Vertical Mullions
Vertical mullions are erected first, as they form the primary structural framework of the façade. The mullions are aligned and secured to the support brackets while maintaining the required tolerances and expansion gaps.
Plumbness and vertical alignment are continuously checked using laser instruments or spirit levels.
4. Fixing of Horizontal Transoms
After completion of the mullion framework, horizontal transoms are connected between adjacent mullions to create the glazing modules.
The transoms provide:
Structural support to glass panels.
Load transfer between members.
Uniform panel spacing throughout the façade.
5. Automatic Door Frame Installation
The entrance opening designated for automatic doors is prepared by installing reinforced aluminium framing members. Proper clearances are maintained to accommodate door operators and moving components.
Alignment of the door frame is checked to ensure smooth operation and proper sealing.
6. Installation of Gaskets and Thermal Components
EPDM gaskets, setting blocks, and other weatherproofing components are installed within the aluminium framing system.
These components provide:
Air tightness.
Water resistance.
Vibration absorption.
Thermal separation.
7. Glass Installation
Glass panels are lifted using suitable handling equipment and placed on setting blocks inside the framing system.
Each panel is positioned carefully to maintain:
Uniform joint widths.
Proper edge clearances.
Panel alignment with adjacent glazing modules.
Pressure plates and cover caps are subsequently fixed to secure the glass panels.
8. Sealant Application and Finishing
Structural and weather sealants are applied at designated joints in accordance with manufacturer's recommendations.
The finishing process includes:
Installation of cover caps.
Joint sealing.
Cleaning of aluminium surfaces.
Removal of protective films.
Inspection for scratches and damages.
9. Quality Control and Inspection
A final inspection is carried out to verify:
Verticality and levelness of members.
Glass alignment.
Fastener tightness.
Joint dimensions.
Weather seal continuity.
Smooth operation of automatic doors.
Any deficiencies identified during inspection are rectified before handover.
Typical Installation Sequence
Survey and setting out.
Bracket and anchor fixing.
Vertical mullion installation.
Horizontal transom installation.
Automatic door frame installation.
Gasket and weatherproofing installation.
Glazing installation.
Pressure plate and cover cap fixing.
